Let me say it on the onset – I wasn’t particularly impressed by the first Deadpool film in 2016. So I went in with managed expectations and did not come out disappointed this even if it was just an above average entertainer.
Director David Letich gets the syntax of this irreverent superhero film correct. The attempt to make a twisted and whacky film is evident in the amount of gimmicks thrown in for shock value or sometimes just for the novelty, like the fantastically cuarted opening credit sequences.
But there is just so much a pool of gimmicks can do in a 2-hour movie. After laughing on both clever and cheeky lines initially, I started feeling the need for the film to speed-up. There’s very little by the way of story because the film fails to offer us even one nicely fleshed out villain, which is of utmost importance in a superhero movie.
However Ryan Reynolds is quite good in his part and he brings in just the right amount of disposition even when he is pummeling down the baddies. Although my favorite was Zazie Beetz as Domino whose superpower is her luck. Its a very well written part and equally well enacted.
“Deadpool 2” can be your Sunday time-pass flick that you can watch without having to stress yourself. Although be assured there is a good chance this might come across as underwhelming since we just witnessed the mania of “Avengers : Infinity War” which is still fresh is our minds.
